children’s ministry coordinator

Red Deer Lake United Church is looking for an enthusiastic Children’s Ministry Coordinator to develop and support Kidz Zone, our children’s program. The incumbent will provide weekly programs for children ages 3 to 12. The position will be responsible for building and maintaining a strong program that includes faith participation and learning through media suitable and appropriate for children. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will work with volunteers and staff to develop a schedule of weekly events and participation.


10 to 15 hours per week

your role will be to:

  • Fulfill the immediate needs for RDLUC’s children’s ministry in providing faith learning programs to help our children grow in their faith and spirituality through the Sunday morning Kidz Zone ministry.

  • Assist RDLUC in determining the longer-term view in building a foundation for future RDLUC children’s ministry.

  • As a spiritual leader, be a person the children, teachers and assistants can trust and approach with any questions or thoughts – letting love be the highest goal.

key responsibilities:

  • Supervise Kidz Zone teachers

  • Provide leadership to the Kidz Zone program including generating the Kidz Zone curriculum, programs and schedules

  • Identify staff/volunteer responsibilities and schedule all paid/volunteer team members to ensure program goals are met within the safe and vulnerable persons requirements of the church and our community

  • Manage teaching assignments, support, mentor, and coordinate volunteers and teachers

  • Plan and prepare the Kidz Zone lessons, room preparation and all-ages service participation

  • Plan weekly activities and coordinate with other leaders, teachers and volunteers for supply needs

  • Must be present/available each Sunday by 10:00 AM (09:30 AM in July and August), as required, to ensure the lesson space is ready, and attendance sheets are prepared for each class

  • Provide calendars and program plan to Senior Minister quarterly or more frequently as required throughout the year

  • Overseeing the registration and attendance process

  • Work with RDLUC teams, including the Communications team to promote events and maintain social media presence

  • Time away must be approved by supervisor and should be organized well in advance to ensure seamless implementation

  • Providing constructive feedback and ideas on program improvement

  • Coordinate the inclusion of RDLUC's core values into the curriculum

  • Other duties as may be required

skills and knowledge required:  

  • Demonstrated experience working within a church or religious environment

  • Experience creating, implementing and evaluating successful children’s ministry programs, and building a supportive, nurturing and fun environment

  • Possess a passion for children’s ministry

  • Knowledge of how to work within a vulnerable sector with children, and confident in designing and proactively implementing practices that keep children and adults safe

  • Familiarity and comfort with the United Church’s theology

  • Knowledge of, and working with the Godly Play program, would be considered an asset

  • Ability to relate theological ideas and spirituality to children’s ministry

  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Ability to coordinate events and programs

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the Ministry and be self-motivated

  • Must be a team player and able to work independently


  • A Police Information Check will be required in the final selection process.
