Care Meal Deliveries: From an Idea to a Lifeline

The Care Meal program began as a pilot project at the start of COVID-19. During that time, we realized that many Seniors deeply missed the social connection they enjoyed through church services — the conversations, the laughter, and the comfort of sharing a meal with friends. We asked ourselves: How can we help fill that void?

Thanks to a team of dedicated Volunteers who generously gave their time, we began assembling Congregational Care Packages once a month. Each package included a meal — often soup or a casserole and dessert — along with tea, treats, and reading material. It quickly became clear that this was more than just a meal delivery; it was a meaningful way to stay connected and care for one another.

The positive feedback was overwhelming. As word spread, requests began to come from others in the community who needed short-term food assistance. From there, Care Meals were born — at times serving 60 to 65 people.

We are grateful for the generous support of our Volunteers and funding received from the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the United Church of Canada, and the Chinook Winds Region. Their partnership has allowed us to continue offering this valuable program.

The Care Meal Program is available to anyone in need within our congregation or surrounding communities. If you, a family member, a neighbor, or someone you know could benefit from a Care Meal, please reach out — we’re here to help.
