The RDLUC Men's Group meets on the last Saturday of each month from September to June with an average attendance of about 25. There are five teams of approximately seven members with a team taking responsibility for helping with the preparation of breakfast and facilitating a program following breakfast which includes roundtable discussions, guest presentations and individuals sharing their “stories”. The emphasis is on fellowship and getting to know each other better through working together. The Men's Group has also taken on some projects such as replacing the siding on the Chapel, installing new flooring to replace the old carpet in the church entryway, kitchen and resource room and over several years volunteers have been involved in refinishing picnic tables, trimming trees and upgrading the parking area at Lloyd Park which is located 2 kilometers South of Red Deer Lake United Church. A proposal was presented to the Group, to provide funding and volunteer labour for the construction of a Horseshoe Court at the park and to dedicate the Court in memory of Bob Kells who was actively involved in the work that was done at the park and in many other aspects of the life and work of our church community. Even though Bob was dealing with very serious health challenges, he never complained , he worked hard and gave his very best at whatever he took on. Work on the Horseshoe Court was completed over the summer and on August 31st members of the Men's Group and special guests including Bob's wife Rae, daughter Melissa and son-in-law Richard gathered at the site for the unveiling of a sign dedicating the court to Bob and for an opportunity to throw some horseshoes.
