Tuesday, February 17
McDougall Site
5:30–8:00 pm
Freewill Offering
You are invited to begin the season of Lent together in community, as we combined both Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday into a single evening.
We’ll gather first for a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, sharing food and conversation as we prepare our hearts for the journey ahead. Following the meal, we’ll move into the sanctuary for an Ash Wednesday Service, shaped by prayer, scripture, and reflection.
The service will be set to special music offered by a musical ensemble, creating a spacious, contemplative atmosphere, similar in style to our Longest Night services. The evening will include the traditional receiving of the mark of ashes, grounding us in the ancient rhythms of repentance, humility, and grace as Lent begins.
Come to eat, worship, and enter the Lenten season together. All are welcome!
Wednesday, February 18
A come and go of placing of the ashes at Red Deer Lake site from 10 am - 2 pm.
Various Dates - All begins Saturday, February 21
Alternates between the Red Deer Lake site and McDougall site
During Lent, Rev. Danah Cox invites people from our shared ministry of Red Deer Lake, McDougall, and Ogden United Churches, as well as the wider community to take part in a shared creative program focusing on Lenten themes of suffering, release, and triumph drawing on deep personal connections, scriptures, and stories of global social justice. This is open to artists and non-artists alike with many ways and mediums to engage creatively.
Participants will be invited to Saturday lunch and discussions at the Red Deer Lake site (upper room) and open studio times on Tuesday evenings at the McDougall site (basement). Thursday evening zoom meetings are also available by appointment.

Mondays in Lent (February 23 – March 30)
McDougall Site
12:00–2:00 pm
Free lunch provided (contributions welcome)
Join us this Lent for a weekly lunch and book study rooted in thoughtful conversation and shared reflection.
We’ll read “Hope: A User’s Manual” by MaryAnn McKibben Dana; a practical and grounded exploration of hope as something we cultivate together in the midst of a complex and hurting world. The book invites honest engagement with justice, weariness, faith, and resilience, offering language and practices for sustaining hope over time. (Note: the McDougall church office will have a couple of copies available for short term borrowing)
Registration isn’t required (drop-ins are always welcome), but if you plan to attend, letting us know assists with planning! Please contact the McDougall church office at 403.252.1620 or office@mcdunited.com.
All are welcome.
